Vincent led efforts in supporting Chinese American scientist Sherry Chen for her appeal of the wrongful termination by the Department of Commerce, which a federal judge ruled to have committed “gross injustice”. These efforts contributed to the U.S. Senate publishing a landmark investigation report in July 2021 revealing the systematic abuse of power and racial profiling at the Commerce Department. At AACO, Vincent built a strong, energetic leadership team across Ohio to focus on empowering Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in civic engagement and community service. He helped start the Ohio Civic Leadership Forum and establish AACO’s youth public service internship program. AACO hosted over 10 candidate forums from 2018 to 2021 that included candidates for school board, city council to governor and supreme court, and placed over 80 public service interns in state and local government offices. In 2021, Vincent spearheaded efforts by over 60 AAPI organizations in Ohio to engage with Ohio Governor DeWine’s office to reinstate the Ohio AAPI Advisory Council.
At APA Justice, Vincent works with members of Congress, civil rights advocates and community leaders nationwide to inform the public, elected officials and the White House about the racial bias against Asian Pacific Islander Americans. The efforts of APA Justice and its partners led to a Congressional hearing in June 2021 about the racial profiling of Chinese American scientists by the government, and the Justice Department ending the “China Initiative” program in March 2022.
